Factors that Affect how People Handle Stress

There many factors that may affect how quickly a person experiences stress and their ability to handle it. Some factors that may predispose a person to stress are genetics, physical health, or environment. For example, a person born with parents who are depressed, have high anxiety and are constantly stressed may have a chance of them suffering from the same.

Physical health is another predisposition of stress. Like, when a child is born with physical disorder. This can cause stress in someone because of how society may look at them and accept them. Environment is another factor that plays in the predisposition of a person’s stress. One may be born into an abusive family or a family who struggles on a daily basis to eat. All these are factors that may predispose a person to stress and their tolerance.

The good news it that therapy may be able to lower your stress, regardless of what has happened to you in your life.

What do you think are the biggest factors that contribute to stress?

Psychotherapy for PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder)

How is post-traumatic stress disorder PTSD and specific phobia treated? People with PTSD often have lasting and frightening thoughts and memories of the event and tend to be emotionally numb. Since PTSD can affect people for a long period of time, the goal of treatment is to help reduce the emotional and physical symptoms to improve daily functioning. Treatment will also provide coping techniques. Psychotherapy can also be a form of treatment for PTSD.

In other words, with help and treatment, people with this type of anxiety disorder can cope with such disorder. Furthermore, for specific phobia such like the one of flying, it can be treated by cognitive behavioral therapy where people with such phobia are slowly exposed to what frightens them until their fear begins to fade. Medication can also help specific phobias as well as, practicing relaxation techniques, such as deep breathing.

What do you think is the best way to treat PTSD?

People Handle Stress Differently

Stress is very powerful and can take over someone’s wellbeing. Stress is caused by many factors, whether it is personal or environmental. It can cause health issues and our capability to live life. People have different ways of coping with stress and others have higher levels of stress tolerance. Stress tolerance is a person’s ability to handle and deal with stress factors without having it affect their everyday life functioning.

For example, someone may tolerate work stress better than someone else while working at fast-paced job. In life, there are several stress factors that automatically exceeds one’s tolerance. The cause of someone’s death, divorce, new job, loss of job, career change, moving, etc. are just a few examples of what someone may go through that may exceed someone’s stress tolerance.

Some people stress a lot for anything and like everything to be [Read more…]
