Attention Deficit (ADHD) Therapy For Parents of Children

Parents Can Help

Counseling can be educational for parents, too. Children and parents can learn how to relate to each other more effectively by developing new attitudes and skills.

Parenting skills training can help parents learn to use a reward system and various consequences for modifying behavior. Immediate and positive feedback are taught to encourage some behaviors and taught to ignore behaviors that are to be discouraged.

Counseling often helps parents with stress management to improve their own ability to respond calmly to behavior instead of getting frustrated.

Often, an entire family can benefit from therapy. Family members will learn how to handle the disruptive behaviors and encourage changes.

The sooner ADHD symptoms are recognized, the easier it will be for children and families to seek therapy, which will lead to a better outcome.
